About the course
The Rio Real golf course was designed by the legendary Javier Arana, considered to be the best Spanish designer of all time. Located in the most prestigious area of Marbella, just 5 minutes from the town centre, this golf course opened in 1965. The course runs alongside the Rio Real river, from which it takes its name. The river forms an integral part of the course, right up until it reaches the Mediterranean Sea. The spectacular course, with 18 holes (par 72) and more than 6,000 metres long, is recognised by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (Real Federación Española de Golf) as one of the best in Spain for its layout, unique beauty and prestige. The course has a wide variety of different species of trees: pines, palms, Casuarinas, olives, cypresses, etc. which make it the ideal place to play golf, both on foot and in golf carts. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, you can play all year round, with holes on the seafront with spectacular views. The course is both suitable and appealing to players of all profiles, thanks to its more elevated holes which require the use of various clubs.
